My Graphic Novels

I recently began publishing in the "new" genre of the graphic novel. It's an exciting yet exhausting experience: writing a script, then supervising artists, producers, designers, letterers... very much like directing a mini-movie!

The Life Eaters

Just released: my huge new graphic novel, The Life Eaters. DC/Wildstorm is calling this work 'the biggest thing since The Watchmen!' Based on my Hugo nominated novella "Thor Meets Captain America," it is by far the darkest work I've written.

This bold work asks: what might the Nazis have really been up to? Perhaps a hidden agenda that nobody knows about even to this day? The theme is explored with stirring imagery (by the great Scott Hampton!).

The French, who love graphic novels almost as much as they adore pastry, have voted the translated, large format version of The Life Eaters a finalist for "best first album." Its title in France? D-Day, le jour du désastre. See also an interview (in French) in the January 2005 edition of the French magazine Phenix.

Forgiveness

Look for my graphic novel Forgiveness, set in the famed Star Trek universe. With approval from Paramount Pictures and DC Comics, Wildstorm Entertainment asked me to script this canonical look at an adventure of the USS Enterprise that fans should find vivid, exciting, fun... and maybe a little stimulating to the mind, as well.

Also, there's one more quirky little feature. It turns out that the core notion for this story first occurred to me way back in 1965, as a teenager in Los Angeles watching the original Star Trek series, when a really weird idea occurred to me... it just goes to show, never throw away anything from your trunk.

My script has been wonderfully illustrated by Scott Hampton, one of the best graphic artists around. Paramount and DC-Wildstorm seem especially happy with this one.

I still do science, but civilization seems more interested in my perspectives on the future. (Who am I to argue with civilization?) Let's face change with agility and hope, and meet the challenges ahead.
